Comic Book Workshop, Afrofuturism was Nice

ICC Article 115, Comic Book Workshop Afrofuturism,

James Bethel and I attended this workshop last week and it was great! It was better than I thought it would be.  It featured to very prominent speakers  Dr. Chambliss and Professor Magdelaina. They dropped a ton of knowledge and history about comics. The main focus was on the importance of diversity in comics and the role it has played over the last few decades. A lot of the information I already knew, but it was good to hear a fresh take on it and other perspectives as well.

We got to show off some of our skills and work too, AND boy were the sponsors and speakers surprised at B Brothers Comics ! They ended up inviting us to some future events coming up and I do believe they want us to speak and show the crowd some of our stuff, we’ll see though. That is what I call effective networking though. We also enjoyed a feast as the event was catered and man it was good! I left super full! It’s rare that I have found an event to be so wonderfully pleasant that I was informed about at the last minute. One of James’s friends sent us a text, which is how we ended up going.  We also saw one of our fellow vendors from the 5th Avenue Arts festival there as well, Destiny. She rocks, I have purchased some of Her comics and vice versa. She had  a great time as well. We saw a few others that we know from 5th Avenue Cultural Arts coalition as well.

The highlight for me though was talking to the Guest speakers after they presented, both Dr. Chambliss and Professor Magdelaina are full of wisdom about comics and it was an absolute honor talking to them. It felt good showing them Pink Hammer issue 3, Purpose. They both liked it, and I was impressed.  Then another feature was a young lady teaching newbies how to make comics, step by step, that was fun as we showed Her some of our published works and She was blown away. All and all I enjoyed this event and left with a great feeling of networking satisfaction. This is what it’s about when going to shows and events, You get the full workup and everyone gets something out of it. I like that.

They covered so many good topics about  comics that I felt like a kid in a candy store. here are a few of the pics from the event. I really wish I had taken some video, but oh well, next time.
